2021 was a year that I tried a lot of new things for the first time. One of them was, I painted on canvas at a family New Year’s sip and paint event, and I LOVED IT! We had several more sip and paint nights, and I couldn’t stop creating after that. I felt like I was tapping in to a part of me that never got to be fully expressed; like a gift that was never fully opened; like I never got to the actual “present”.

As I was tapping into my gifts, my spirit tapped me on the shoulder, you could say. “Go up north and paint for three days” is what I heard. I listened to spirit, packed the car with art supplies, and went on a road trip to Lake Superior in Duluth, Minnesota. It was there that I created a collection of paintings, all abstract and done with acrylic paint on canvas. The trip was so much more than me painting for three days. It was a new side of me coming through creatively. It was me sitting with myself, loving myself as I painted. It was me connecting with my ancestors. It was a healing time.
